| Reverse description | The winged Lion of Saint Mark, symbol of the Venetian Republic, depicted facing the viewer with wings spread and head turned slightly, resting upon or holding an open Gospel book. The legend S · MARC · VEN (Sanctus Marcus Venetus) arcs around the upper field, flanked by ornamental rosette stops. Two small star ornaments appear in the lower field to either side of the lion. The denomination II (2 Soldi) is inscribed in the exergue, separated from the main field by a horizontal line. The overall execution is consistent with the bold, somewhat crude engraving style characteristic of Venetian colonial copper issues for the Ionian Islands. |
