The Pathet Lao issues of 1945–46 are among the earliest paper money attempts by any Indochinese independence movement, predating the formal establishment of the Pathet Lao as an organized political force by several years. This note circulated — to the extent it circulated at all — in zones of contested control during the chaotic period following Japan's surrender, when French authority had not yet been reasserted and multiple factions were issuing competing scrip.
The trilingual denomination — Lao, Vietnamese, and Chinese — reflects the messy political geography of the moment rather than any coherent monetary policy. Printing details remain poorly documented.
