Aanvullende informatie

Romania's 1876 pattern coinage was produced during a politically charged moment — the country was still nominally a vassal of the Ottoman Empire, and Carol I was aggressively pursuing full independence, which would come only after Romanian forces fought alongside Russia in the 1877–78 war against the Ottomans. Pattern strikes from this period reflect experimental monetary planning for a fully sovereign state that did not yet legally exist.

The nickel brass composition was never adopted for circulation coinage of this denomination.
