Bolivia's 1986 redenomination replaced the peso boliviano at a rate of one million to one — the boliviano returning after a forty-year absence, reinstated specifically to signal a break from the hyperinflation that had peaked at over 20,000 percent annually in 1985. This note belongs to the first series issued under that reform.

The Canadian Bank Note Company produced this entire inaugural boliviano series from its Ottawa plant. CBNC was the dominant supplier for Bolivian currency through this period, a relationship that predated the crisis by decades.
