| Description de l’avers | The Nicaraguan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanic peaks rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun, surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap. The triangle is flanked on either side by laurel and oak branches extending to the coin's periphery. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA arcs along the upper portion of the rim, while the independence date 15 DE SETIEMBRE 1821 is inscribed along the lower arc, with a small star on each side separating the legends. The entire design is rendered in fine relief with a beaded border encircling the rim. |

| Description du revers | The denomination 20 CENTS and the date 1887 are boldly inscribed in three lines at the centre of the field, enclosed within a wreath composed of laurel and oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The mintmark H, for Heaton and Sons of Birmingham, appears beneath the ribbon at the bottom of the wreath. A fine beaded border runs along the inner edge of the rim, complementing the clean, unadorned field surrounding the central devices. |
