Toluca's copper 20 centavos issues fall squarely into this emergency monetary tradition, where the stamp of a local government transformed an otherwise ordinary piece into sanctioned currency within a defined geographic jurisdiction. The practice was widespread across Mexican states between roughly 1913 and 1917.
