Obverse description The Cerro de Montevideo (Hill of Montevideo), a prominent national symbol also featured in the upper right quarter of Uruguay's coat of arms, is depicted at left, surmounted by a fortress symbolizing strength and defense. The abbreviated country name appears as a legend along the upper rim, with the mint mark 'So' (Santiago, Chile) and the date '1976' inscribed below the central device.
