Additional information

Redonda is a uninhabited half-square-mile volcanic rock in the Caribbean, part of Antigua and Barbuda, that has sustained a farcical "kingdom" since the 1860s when an eccentric Irishman named Matthew Dowdy Shiell claimed it for his son. The title passed through a chain of British literary figures — most notably the fantasy writer M.P. Shiel and later the poet John Gawsworth — before dissolving into competing claimants and pub-based abdications. By 2009, several rival "kings" were issuing coins simultaneously, none with any monetary authority whatsoever.

This piece was struck purely for the collector market.
