| Obverse description | The obverse is printed in black and green on white paper with a bilingual layout. At centre, a classical allegorical female figure is seated, rendered in fine intaglio engraving, holding a staff and flanked by ornate guilloche panels bearing the denomination numeral 'XX' in both English and French. Oval portrait vignettes appear at left and right, with the bank name 'BANQUE CANADIENNE NATIONALE' across the top, denomination numerals '20' at each corner, and bilingual text 'WILL PAY TO BEARER ON DEMAND / PAIERA AU PORTEUR SUR DEMANDE' below the central vignette. Two facsimile signatures appear at the foot of the note, and the date and place 'Montreal, Feb. 1st 1929' are printed above the central design. |
