| Obverse description | The obverse presents vignettes of the Ngaputoru and Mangaia island groups, with outlined maps of Atiu, Mauke, Mitiaro, Takutea, and Mangaia set against a multicolour guilloche underprint. Islanders beside an outrigger canoe are rendered in intaglio alongside a camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora), a carved ironwood shark hook from Mangaia, the Mangaia kingfisher (Todiramphus ruficollaris), a coconut crab (Birgus latro), and the Rarotonga meryta or kakavatua (Meryta pauciflora). Denomination numerals and issuer text appear at the corners and margins, with the Cook Islands arms watermark visible in the paper. |
