Bradbury Wilkinson printed New Zealand currency for decades, but the firm closed in 1990 — absorbed into American Banknote Corporation — meaning late issues in this P#173 series were among their final New Zealand commissions. The three signature variants (Hardie, Russell, Brash) span eleven years of governors, with Don Brash's tenure beginning in 1988 making his signed examples the latest and shortest-window of the run.
Watermark-only security by the 1980s was already behind contemporary standards, and this series was retired when New Zealand moved to polymer substrate notes in 1999.
