Additional information

The Radziwiłł Palace in Vilnius — more commonly known as the Palace of the Grand Dukes' administrators — served as the principal Lithuanian seat of the Radziwiłł family, one of the most powerful magnate dynasties in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. At their peak in the 16th and 17th centuries, the Radziwiłłs controlled private armies larger than those of many sovereign states. The palace itself fell into severe disrepair under Soviet occupation and was only substantively excavated and partially reconstructed after Lithuanian independence.

Lithuania's commemorative silver program has consistently favored architectural heritage over figures or events, a curatorial choice that distinguishes it from most other Baltic issues.
