The denomination 'FILERI' appears in large bold letterpress at the foot, and the four corners each carry the numeral '20' within ruled squares, all enclosed by an elaborate Art Nouveau ornamental border. |

Timișoara occupied an unusual administrative position in 1919 — the city had been claimed by Romanian forces in August of that year, but local institutions had not yet been formally absorbed into the Romanian state. This note was issued by the city treasury under its Romanian-language designation, a deliberate signal of the new political order, yet the denomination is expressed in fileri, the subdivision of the Austro-Hungarian korona. The currency it referenced was already collapsing.
Municipal emergency scrip of this type was printed locally, often on whatever paper stock was available, and rarely survived circulation in collectible condition. The short redemption window and general chaos of the transition meant most were either spent to destruction or discarded.
