Obverse description The central panel is flanked by two classical allegorical figures: Mercury, god of commerce, seated at left with caduceus and cornucopia, and Hercules at right, club in hand and draped in a lion's skin, symbolising strength. Intricate guilloche patterns and ornate decorative borders frame the composition in a rigorous intaglio style. The design was conceived by Cabasson in 1872 and engraved by Albert Bellenger.
Obverse lettering BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE VINGT FRANCS CH-CABASSON, INV ET DEL, 1872. ALBERT - BELLENGER SC.
