Igls, a small village on the plateau above Innsbruck, issued notgeld during the severe coin shortages of World War One and its immediate aftermath. The Kurgemeinde designation reflects Igls's status as a registered spa and resort community — administratively distinct from a standard municipality, which gave it the legal standing to issue its own emergency small change.
Heller-denomination notgeld of this type was typically a local affair: printed in small runs, redeemable only within the issuing community, and often withdrawn within months. Most pieces that survived did so in collector hands, not through active use.
