| 表面の銘文 | Stadtgemeinde Rottenmann Gutschein über 20 Heller |
| 裏面の説明 | Cream-toned note with a black geometric border incorporating diamond and oval motifs at the corners and midpoints. To the left, the heraldic coat of arms of Rottenmann is rendered as a bold woodcut-style vignette, with a helmeted armoured figure surmounting the shield and a smaller figure at the base. The right portion carries the redemption text in blackletter script, followed by four handwritten signatures arranged in two columns under the titles of Bürgermeister, 2. Bürgermeister-Stellvertreter, and two Gemeinderat officials, with a counterfeiting warning below the main text. |

Rottenmann is a small market town in Styria, and its wartime Heller notes belong to the enormous wave of Austrian municipal notgeld issued from 1914 onward as hoarding stripped small coinage from circulation almost immediately after the outbreak of war. The imperial government was slow to respond, leaving towns and businesses to print their own low-denomination emergency paper — often on whatever stock was locally available, which is why condition varies so dramatically across surviving municipal issues.
The Jaksch/Pick cataloguing of Austrian notgeld remains incomplete in places, and many smaller Styrian issues like this one are underrepresented in major collections.
