Additional information

San Marino struck a series of silver prova coins in the early 1930s as pattern submissions, never releasing them for general circulation. The republic's coinage during this period was produced under Italian Fascist oversight — Mussolini's government had restructured San Marino's monetary arrangements, and new coin designs required approval through Rome. Whether this piece was rejected, superseded, or simply shelved before the political relationship further complicated matters is not entirely clear from surviving mint records.
