Bradbury Wilkinson printed the earliest issues of independent Lesotho's banknotes, and this 20 Maloti belongs to that founding series — the maloti having replaced the rand at par in 1980 after Lesotho established the Central Bank the previous year. The note carries two distinct signature combinations, suggesting it spans the full run of the series across 1981–1984, a period when the bank was still establishing its administrative and monetary infrastructure.
Bradbury Wilkinson closed in 1990 after De La Rue acquired the New Malden operation, ending one of Britain's longest-running security printing houses.
