Obverse description The copper-nickel centre features the Mexican national coat of arms: an eagle displayed in left profile, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky islet, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons. The design is rendered in high relief with fine feather detailing on the wings and tail. The brass outer ring carries the national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arching along the upper periphery, flanked at the base by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon.
