The Banco de la República's relationship with Thomas De La Rue extended through much of the mid-twentieth century, and this series reflects that continuity — the 20 Pesos Oro denomination ran across more than a decade with only minor plate revisions, making date variants a legitimate collecting distinction rather than a trivial one. Colombian collectors have long noted that certain signature combinations within the P#401 series correspond to specific finance ministers and bank managers, effectively dating political tenures through the notes themselves.
Paper quality on circulated examples from the early 1960s can show accelerated foxing, attributed to storage conditions in coastal branches during periods of high humidity.
