Egypt's P#52 series had an unusually long production run, spanning two decades without a fundamental redesign — a reflection of the Central Bank's conservative approach to note management during a period when neighboring economies were cycling through successive emergency issues. The 20 Pound denomination carried real purchasing weight throughout this period, and notes from the earlier dates in the run saw genuine heavy circulation.
The watermark is the sole mechanical security feature, which by the 1990s was well behind international standards. Counterfeiting pressure on the series was documented by the late 1980s, which accelerated the eventual transition to the subsequent issue.
