The English inscription CENTRAL BANK OF SUDAN runs along the upper band, and the denomination TWENTY SUDANESE POUNDS with the numeral 20 is set in the lower right. Sudan's 2006 note series was issued under considerable monetary pressure — the country was managing a fragmented economy in the wake of decades of civil conflict, with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed only the year before. The Central Bank was navigating a dual-currency reality in practice, with southern regions operating semi-independently before South Sudan's eventual secession in 2011 rendered this entire series obsolete within five years of issue.
De La Rue's Gateshead facility, formerly the old Bradbury Wilkinson plant, handled production. Security specification is modest for the period — watermark and thread only, without optical features.
