Belarus launched its own currency in 1992 following the collapse of the Soviet Union, but these early roubles were not initially introduced as a permanent national currency — they circulated alongside Soviet and then Russian roubles during a deeply unstable transitional period. The P#A10 designation reflects its provisional status in the Pick catalogue, distinguishing it from the later consolidated rouble series.

Microtext was the primary security measure, modest by any standard, though adequate given that counterfeiting infrastructure in the region at the time was limited. Inflation rendered these notes economically obsolete within a few years of issue.
