| 背面描述 | The center of the reverse presents a detailed relief rendering of the historic city layout of Polotsk, based on a 16th-century engraving, conveying the medieval urban character of one of Belarus's oldest cities. In the upper right portion of the field, the municipal coat of arms of Polotsk from the 16th–18th centuries is displayed. Cyrillic inscriptions along the rim read ПОЛАЦК (Polatsk) and ГАРАДЫ БЕЛАРУСI (Belarusian Cities), identifying the coin as part of the Belarusian Cities commemorative series. |

Polotsk is among the oldest cities in Belarus, with chronicles placing it as early as 862 AD, and it served as the capital of the Polotsk Principality — one of the earliest distinct political entities in the region. This 1998 issue was part of a broader commemorative program launched by the National Bank shortly after Belarusian independence, aimed at documenting the country's pre-Soviet historical geography at a moment when reclaiming that identity carried real political weight.
