Obverse description Central field bears the vertical denomination inscription in kanji characters flanked on either side by two confronted phoenix figures. A chrysanthemum flower seal (imperial kamon) is positioned at the top of the design, while a paulownia crest appears at the bottom, itself flanked by decorative karakusa (arabesque scrollwork) sprigs. The overall composition reflects the formal Meiji-era design vocabulary applied to Japanese silver coinage. The periphery features a milled border consistent with pattern coinage of the period.
