| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, Head of State of Samoa, rendered in high relief with fine engraved detail. The legend TUI ATUA TUPUA TAMASESE EFI curves along the upper periphery of the coin, flanked by two small five-pointed stars at the lower portion of the border. The country name SAMOA and the date 2011 appear in the lower field beneath the portrait, separated from it by a recessed arc.
