Additional information

The Democratic Republic of Vietnam issued gold coinage in 1948 under extraordinary circumstances — the country was simultaneously fighting the French Expeditionary Corps in the First Indochina War while attempting to establish functional government institutions from scratch. Gold issues of this period were not intended for everyday circulation but served as instruments of state finance, used to pay suppliers, secure arms, and build alliances during a guerrilla campaign fought largely from the mountains of the Việt Bắc region.

Surviving examples are rare; wartime production records are fragmentary at best.
