The denomination 200 CONDORES appears in the upper left of the inner disc. The island name ISLA ALEJANDRO SELKIRK is inscribed in three lines across the lower portion of the inner disc. | Additional information |
Alejandro Selkirk is the smaller and far more remote of Chile's two Juan Fernández islands, lying roughly 180 km west of Más a Tierra — the island renamed Robinson Crusoe in 1966, partly to attract tourism. Selkirk himself was marooned on Más a Tierra, not on the island now bearing his name. The 2014 Juan Fernández series corrects nothing about that peculiarity; it simply commemorates the archipelago as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, designated in 1977.
