Comments

The 200 Cruzeiros denomination was introduced as Brazil's inflation crisis accelerated through the late 1980s, requiring ever-larger face values just to cover routine transactions. By the time this third-edition printing reached circulation in 1990, the country was weeks away from the Collor Plan — the March 1990 shock program that froze private bank accounts and replaced the cruzeiro with the cruzeiro novo almost overnight. Notes already in circulation were suddenly stranded in wallets while savings accounts were locked for eighteen months.

Pick 229 is common in higher circulated grades but frequently encountered with heavy soiling, a predictable result of surviving in active use through one of the most chaotic monetary transitions in Brazilian history.
