Beschrijving voorzijde The national coat of arms of Kiribati occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a rising sun over ocean waves in the lower half and a frigate bird in flight above the upper chief. Beneath the shield, a curved scroll banner bears the national motto in Gilbertese: TE MAURI TE RAOI AO TE TABOMOA. The country name KIRIBATI and the date 2006 are inscribed in large letters along the lower portion of the field. The design is struck in cameo proof style against a mirror-polished field.

Aanvullende informatie

Kiribati's Christmas Island gold issues from this period were produced almost entirely for the collector market — the republic, spread across 33 atolls and reliant on foreign aid, has never operated a mint of its own. Dies and production were contracted to foreign facilities, a common arrangement among Pacific microstates whose coin programs function as revenue instruments rather than circulating currency.

KM#57 is one of several high-denomination gold pieces Kiribati issued in the mid-2000s through licensing arrangements. Actual distribution was handled by third-party numismatic agencies, meaning most examples went directly into dealer inventory without ever approaching the islands themselves.
