Ukraine's 200 hryvnia denomination was introduced with this 2001 issue as part of the post-independence series consolidating the hryvnia, which had only replaced the transitional karbovanets in 1996. The Ukrainian Banknote Printing Works in Kyiv — established specifically to give Ukraine full domestic control over its currency production after decades of Soviet-era dependence on Moscow's printing infrastructure — handled the entire run.
Security on this issue is relatively modest by later standards: a basic watermark and embedded thread, without the more sophisticated features added to subsequent redesigns of the denomination in 2007 and beyond.
