The Pathet Lao issued its own currency in parallel with the Royal Lao Government's notes during the decades-long civil conflict — two separate monetary systems operating simultaneously across a divided country. This series circulated primarily in Pathet Lao-controlled zones in the northeast, where the movement maintained its administrative base with close support from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
The wide date range on these notes reflects reissue across multiple years rather than a single print run, and surviving examples vary considerably in the quality of impression — likely a consequence of limited printing infrastructure during wartime conditions.
