The 2014 series marked a significant redesign for Rwandan currency, issued two decades after the genocide that effectively destroyed the previous monetary system — the National Bank itself had to be reconstituted from near-collapse in 1994. Crane Currency, the Massachusetts-based security printer, produced this series, though the "Printed: 30.04.1945" date in the catalog data is clearly erroneous and likely a database artefact.

For a note of this denomination, the security specification is notably thin — watermark alone without a security thread is unusual for a high-value issue from this period, and worth scrutiny on any example presented for authentication.
