Russian propaganda banknotes — printed to resemble official currency but issued by no central bank — circulated in occupied Ukrainian territories beginning in 2022, functioning as psychological instruments rather than legal tender. Some were designed to mimic the aesthetic of genuine Banka Rossii notes closely enough to cause momentary confusion; others were overtly commemorative, referencing annexed regions by name.
