The name गोर्खापत्र (Gorkhapatra) is prominently inscribed in large characters at the center, with the founding year in Bikram Sambat era rendered as (वि.सं. १९५८) immediately below. Two lines of a classical Nepali verse occupy the middle field: निरोगी सबै हुन् सबै हुन् सुखीया | सबै वेस देखुन् नहुन् क्वै दुखीया || The arc legend ११६ औं गौरवमय वर्ष (116th Glorious Year) runs along the upper border, and the denomination रु २००० is inscribed in large numerals along the lower field. |

Issued to mark the centennial of the Gorkhapatra, Nepal's oldest continuously published newspaper, founded in 1901 under Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shamsher. The paper was originally a government mouthpiece during the autocratic Rana oligarchy and only gradually evolved toward independent journalism after the fall of that regime in 1951.
