Sealand — the former Royal Navy sea fort Roughs Tower, occupied since 1967 by Paddy Roy Bates and self-declared a sovereign principality — issued a series of large-format silver rounds throughout the 1990s that occupy an awkward position between novelty bullion and micronation propaganda. They were never legal tender in any recognized jurisdiction, and the "principality" has no permanent population, no land territory, and no internationally recognized monetary authority. Collectors acquire them as curiosities of political eccentricity rather than as numismatic material in the conventional sense.
