Obverse description Central field bears the Hawk of Quraish, the coat of arms of Syria, depicted with wings displayed and a shield upon its breast charged with three stars. The hawk clutches a scroll inscribed with the state title in Arabic. The AD date appears to the left and the AH date to the right of the central device, both rendered in Arabic-Indic numerals. The circular legend around the periphery reads 'Syrian Arab Republic' in Arabic script.

Reverse description The denomination '2 1/2' in large Arabic-Indic numerals occupies the upper field. Below, a rectangular cartouche with a beaded border encloses the Arabic inscription 'قرشان ونصف' (Two and a Half Piastres). The lower portion of the field is filled with a band of stylised arabesque and foliate ornamental design, framed by a beaded outer border running around the full circumference of the coin.
