| Beschrijving voorzijde | The Icelandic national coat of arms — a quartered shield bearing a cross — occupies the center of the field, flanked on either side by a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon bow at the base. The date of issue appears in the upper portion of the field, arching above the shield. The overall design is rendered in a clean, heraldic style with fine linear engraving on the shield's quarters. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Iceland's postwar coinage underwent a quiet but deliberate overhaul following the country's formal declaration of independence from Denmark in June 1944. The copper-nickel alloys adopted for these smaller denominations reflected both wartime material lessons and the practical demands of a fishing-economy nation where coins moved through wet, rough-handled conditions constantly.
The series ran long enough to span Iceland's admission to NATO in 1949 and the first Cod War with Britain — a period of considerable economic and political flux for a young republic.
