Haiti's 1875 issue came during a period of extreme monetary instability, when successive governments had debased and reissued currency so aggressively that public confidence in paper had almost entirely collapsed. The Banque Nationale d'Haiti, operating under French financial interests, turned to the American Bank Note Company — then the dominant security printer in the Western Hemisphere — to lend the notes a credibility that domestic printing could not provide.
P#68 is among the rarer low-denomination survivors from this series. Small-value notes circulated hardest and were seldom preserved.
