Rhodesia's coinage after UDI in November 1965 presented a quiet logistical problem: the country needed to maintain a functioning currency while under international sanctions that officially cut it off from London's Royal Mint. Blanks and production assistance were sourced through intermediaries, and the coins continued circulating with little outward sign of the political crisis sustaining them.
By 1975, the Bush War was escalating sharply, with ZANLA and ZIPRA operations forcing the Rhodesian government into increasing military expenditure. Coins kept circulating regardless.
