Obverse description Within a triangular flan, a right-facing Antarctic Skua (Stercorarius maccormicki) rendered in relief occupies the central field, depicted in a standing posture with detailed feather work. The legend ANTARCTIC SKUA curves along the left diagonal edge, while WILDLIFE PROTECTION runs along the base of the triangle. The overall design emphasizes wildlife conservation imagery in keeping with Westarctica's thematic coinage series.

Additional information

Westarctica is a micronation founded in 2001 by Travis McHenry, who exploited a territorial gap in the Antarctic Treaty System to claim Marie Byrd Land — one of the largest unclaimed territories on Earth at the time. The X# reference places this squarely in the Unusual World Coins catalog, the standard home for micronational and fantasy issues. Grant Island is a real geographic feature off the Hobbs Coast of Antarctica, within the claimed territory.

These were struck as novelty issues rather than circulating coinage, with no meaningful monetary infrastructure behind them.
