Opmerkingen

During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, U.S. Army Psychological Operations produced overprinted Iraqi dinar notes as leaflet drops over Iraqi positions — the idea being that a soldier holding one could use it as a surrender pass, reducing the psychological barrier to defection. The program worked in conjunction with broader PSYOP leaflet campaigns estimated to have contributed to the mass surrenders that characterized the ground war's opening hours.

The Iraqi dinar's dual Hijri and Gregorian date notation — 1406-1986 in this case — is a standard feature of Baathist-era currency, not unique to these overprints. U.S. printers reproduced genuine circulating notes as the base document, making them visually credible at distance.
