Bahrain decimalised its currency in 1965, replacing the Gulf rupee with the dinar at a rate of 10 rupees to one dinar. The fils denominations that followed have seen remarkably little design revision across decades — this second type distinguished from its predecessor primarily by a revised calligraphic rendering of the ruler's name following Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's formal title adjustment after Bahrain's transition from emirate to kingdom in 2002.
