De Curaçaosche Bank was established in 1828 as the sole currency-issuing authority for the Dutch Caribbean territories, and this note dates from a narrow window during and immediately after the First World War — a period when transatlantic shipping disruptions made resupply of printed currency genuinely difficult. Enschedé in Haarlem had been the bank's printer of choice for decades, and the relationship held even when getting physical notes from the Netherlands to Curaçao required navigating U-boat risk.
