25 Øre

These tiny fractional notes were issued by Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel — the Royal Greenland Trade Department — for use within the closed trading system that governed Greenlandic commerce under Danish colonial administration. They were not legal tender in Denmark itself and could not be spent outside Greenland's tightly controlled economy, functioning more as company scrip than conventional currency.

The format was dictated by purchasing power, not convenience. At 25 øre, the denomination had to survive rough handling by hunters and fishermen trading seal skins and blubber at KGH stations.
