This piece belongs to a wave of sub-Saharan CFA-denominated gold issues that flooded the numismatic market in the mid-2010s, produced not for domestic circulation but exclusively for foreign collector sales. Senegal, like several other UEMOA member states, licensed its name and currency denomination to private minting operations — most traceable to European mints working on commission — with no meaningful involvement from the Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest in the coin's concept or distribution.
