The 250 Gulden denomination sits at the top of the Antillean gulden series and was rarely encountered in everyday transactions — the islands' economies ran predominantly on smaller notes, leaving high-value pieces like this to move through banking channels and interisland commerce rather than retail use. Enschedé had printed Netherlands Antilles paper since the postwar reorganization of the territory's currency, and the relationship was essentially unbroken through the series.
Ravelo Nadal, a Cuban-born designer, contributed to several Caribbean note series during this period, an unusual crossover between Cold War spheres rarely remarked upon in catalog literature.
