In the right foreground, a bearded bust portrait of the Venetian explorer Marco Polo is depicted in high relief, facing left, wearing period robes. A multi-tiered Chinese pagoda rises in the middle distance behind the vessel. The legend CHINESE JUNK arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, and the inscription MARCO POLO appears in the lower left field.
