Kyzikos, a prosperous Propontis city on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara, was famed above all for its electrum staters — among the most prolific and widely traded coins of the ancient Greek world. This bronze issue belongs to a period when Kyzikos was navigating the turbulent aftermath of Alexander's conquests, passing through Antigonid and then Lysimachean control before falling under Seleukid and eventually Pergamene influence. Bronze civic coinage of this kind reflects continued local administrative autonomy even under shifting external authority.
