| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned royal cypher of Sigismund II Augustus (SA monogram) with the date divided to either side. The Topor arms (a stylized hook or axe charge) appear within the legend, positioned before or after REX. The peripheral legend in Latin reads around the coin in a continuous band, identifying the king as ruler of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. The design is characteristic of hammered Lithuanian issues of the mid-sixteenth century, with the monogram as the dominant device. |
